The Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute and Department of International and European Law of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw are honoured to invite for the international Conference: “The impact of climate change on international law and European Union law”.

The Conference is organized as part of the project “The knowledge base on climate change and adapting to climate change impacts, together with knowledge dissemination channels, to strengthen economic, environmental and societal resilience as well as to support management of extraordinary risks associated with climate change” co-financed from the operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment”.

The Conference takes place on 29-30th October, 2018 in Auditorium Maximum at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University, ul. Kazimierza Wóycickiego 1/3 in Warsaw.

The aim of the Conference is to exchange views on the nature, scale and effects of climate change phenomena and to analyse the impact of climate change on international law and European Union law as well as integration of research community focusing on the legal aspects of climate change and adaptation to climate change.

One of the aims of the Conference will be to show climate change as a factor of development not only of international environmental law, but also selected areas of international law such as: law of the natural resources, law of the sea, international economic law, human rights law, law of armed conflict and law of regional integration organisations. An additional advantage of the Conference will be the participation of guests representing non-legal science, in particular climate science, whose voice and scientific expertise regarding the causes and effects of climate change, will create the ground for discussion on legal issues in this field.

The subject matter of the conference refers to the 24th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24), which will be held in Katowice on December 3-14, 2018 in conjunction with the 14th Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP14), during which States Parties will make decisions regarding further global efforts to protect the climate.

The target audience of the conference will be  researches and practitioners dealing with legal aspects of climate change and adaptation to climate change including the impact of these changes on EU legislation. A wide range of speeches will be presented during the conference by experts from Poland and from abroad.

The participation in the conference is free of charge. The organizers do not provide participants with accommodation. The working languages of the conference will be Polish and English. The organizers will provide simultaneous translation. The number of participants is limited.
